NEWSDate: Dec 19, 2011 Raiders ranked 5th in National rankings
The Nepean Raiders are now ranked 5th in the Canadian Junior Hockey league national rankings after a very successful 2-0 record at the CCHL Holiday Showcase which took place Dec. 16-18 in Kanata. The Raiders began play Friday night and in one of the more thrilling games of the weekend, beat a very determined Cornwall Colts team 2-1 in overtime on a great winner from Craig Cowie. Shaun Altshuller opened the scoring for Nepean on a powerplay goal in the first. Matt Zawadzki git the win in nets. On Saturday night, Nepean took a little longer to get going but eventually beat the Hawkesbury Hawks 5-2 backed by the goaltending of Dylan BrindAmour. Raider goals were scored by Dalen Hedges, with two, Brent Norris, Ryan MacLean and Kenneth Neil. The Raiders go into the break sitting atop the CCHL standings with a 28-5-4-1 record good for 61 points. The Raiders next game is January 3, 2012 at Kanata at 7:30 pm. They then play at Hawkesbury Friday January 6 at 7:30. Nepean opens the home portion of the 2012 schedule with a game at the Sportsplex Sunday January 8 at 2:30 pm against the Cornwall Colts.
